The EU, Northern Ireland and the GPSR

The EU’s new General Product Safety Regulations (GPSR) come into force on 13th December 2024. These new regulations replace older safety rules designed to ensure that all consumer products sold in the EU meet modern safety standards.

These regulations require, among other things, that we appoint a physical representative within the EU to hold documents relating to product safety and act as a point of contact for our EU customers.

We recently stopped shipping to the EU due to the various packaging regulations and fees required by each member state. That being the case, these new GPSR rules might at first appear not to affect us.

However, Northern Ireland is now considered both part of the EU and part of the UK. Consequently, we can no longer ship products to Northern Ireland. To do so, we would need to have a registered representative for Clockwork Arcana living somewhere in Europe, which, as a small business, we simply cannot afford.

As it currently stands, the new GPSR rules are not completely understood by us or by many other small businesses. Everyone wishes to trade with our good friends in Europe and Northern Ireland, but we're still waiting for advice on how best to proceed!
